Well friends it has been a rather uneventful week. Wife and I went to work, boy went to day care, rinse+wash+repeat.
I’ve got 2 projects in the works right now, one I’ll report on after the big reveal Monday morning. Details on the other below!
So my buddy (let’s call him Ken) and I have been talking lately about making something fun with a raspberry pi. After a meeting of the minds over Old Bust Head beer and truck food we had something resembling a plan. The end goal is to make a system that monitors and controls pool chemicals. It’s going to be fairly complicated but if it keeps my pool from being green all summer AGAIN I’m in. I’m hoping we can put that together over the winter.
Before we do that, I thought it would be cool to set up some Christmas lights Stranger Things style for Halloween. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about go watch Stranger Things then come back. The lights will go in my office first (gotta win that decorating contest) then to the house for Trick or Treaters.
So luckily this project has been done a few times by folks on the internet. Turns out there’s this super cool chip out there for LED strips that gives you individual control over everything for super cheap. It’s awesome, and not new, just new to me.
The plan is sort of evolving as I go but so far I’ve got a strip of lights that plays random messages in a scary ouija board format. On top of that you can text a message and have the lights display it.
Once I work some of the remaining kinks out I’ll post photos and video of the magic.
